"The Last Party"
Much hoopla by Jason Heath-Fitzgerald:
When we decided to organize a party for Matthew's birthday I quickly became enthusiastic after Sherri suggested that we should make it a 'hoe-down', however mixed emotion quickly took over when I realized that this would be the last party we would organize as The Krebs Queens.
For those of you who don't know, we are leaving Krebs and moving to a new home in McAlester. Yes, it's not far away, our jobs are the same and our lives will change little, but the 13 years that we've spent on this block in Krebs, Oklahoma have been very momentous. Memories we've created here are too numerous to mention and the parties; wow, they have been sensational!
The date finally came and on April 15th the last party arrived. "The Krebs Queens and Sherold Present, The OCC Matthew Heath-Fitzgerald's White Trash Birthday-Bash Hoe-Down, The Last Krebs Queens Party" Quite a title! We surmised that the last event should have an amazing name and I believe we did it justice.
What a way to end the 13 years as The Krebs Queens. Unexpectedly, the party started 2 hours early, folks were just a bit too excited! I can't tell you how many folks came to celebrate, but it was one of the largest parties we've seen in some time. So many folks, so much fun and SO many stories!
Harold managing the fire out back, Matthew singing a song or two, Kelly and I trying our hand at an old Meatloaf duet, trucks in ditches, jello shots, Bill's cherries, Sherri's saloon girl costume, dancing and on and on...
I have lost a few memories from the morning hours of Sunday, but have been getting them back by hearing stories from other folks- thanks guys! I remember being aware of things around 4am, but loosing a few hours and then coming to between 9 and 10am, Floyd mixing a drink and telling me I need to start drinking again to get rid of my headache! And he was right!
Unfortunately Bill, Eric and Floyd had to head back home, but the few partiers left carried on. Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day, quite unexpected after the cold and wet Saturday that preceded. We found ourselves enjoying our drinks in the middle of the yard, soaking up all the sun we could- if you don't believe me, check out Kelly & Paul's sunburns! Maybe they should have followed Glenn's lead and carried an umbrella...
So, the last party was an amazing success. The first guests arriving around 5:30 on Saturday and the last guests leaving around 10pm on Sunday... it was perfect.
Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate Matthew's birthday!
Special thanks to: Sherri & Harold (as always nothing happens without ya'll) Bill & Eric (thanks for the disco-ball! it's going to be wonderful in the new party room) Floyd (thanks for comin down from OKC to party with us) Kelly (thanks for EVERYTHING you did to help, you're one of the greatest folks ever!) And our close friends, you all know who you are... we appreciate you and love you so much!
See ya'll at the new house!
Love To All.
