"Swooning Over A Classic"
Sad swooning by Jason Heath-Fitzgerald:
What's crazy is I don't typically swoon about any actors. Yes, I'll say: "damn, he's hot" or the typical comments along that line.
Another thing that's crazy is when a celebrity dies I never post about it or feel the need to go on and on; it's not like they were a friend or acquaintance of mine.
So, maybe you understand why I feel a bit silly and somewhat like a school girl when I feel a blog coming on about the passing of Heath Ledger.
I've told my husband how much I'm happy with our life together, but we can only be together until Heath and I get married... followed with good hearted laughter. (Because everyone knows how much I am in love with my husband.)
I suppose most people would say that it is commonplace for a gay man to have a thing for Heath Ledger, because of his work in 'Brokeback Mountain,' but I don't believe that's what did it for me.
Don't get me wrong. 'Brokeback Mountain' was an amazing movie and a huge step for the film industry as well as the homosexual community, but that's not the reason Heath Ledger moved me.
Matthew knows that on rare occasion when I'm spending an evening alone, I usually end up having 'A Knights Tale' or 'Casanova' in the DVD player. Besides 'Brokeback,' those are my two favorite Ledger movies and I have watched them over and over.
When Sherri text me this afternoon that Ledger was dead, two thoughts went through my head. The first of amazement, the second was about the comments that would follow his death. Crazy, but proven true when I got home and pulled the news stories up online. Folks were already leaving nasty comments about Ledger dying because of his homosexual role in 'Brokeback,' and what's sad is people possible believe that.
It's sad how crude people are today. There seems to be very little compassion in our country. We are stuck in a time when millions are going to the movies to watch things like 'SAW I, II, III, IV and V' and people post nasty things about a man who just passed simply because he had enough guts to tackle a homosexual role in a major motion picture.
Heath Ledger might not have been the greatest actor of all time, but one thing he had was Hollywood style. He was born to be an actor. He was born to make little girls and gay men swoon. Yes, he was beautiful, but he was so much more. He was classic.
And it hurts my heart to write this blog and be able to say: 'He was...'
