"Moving On"
Promulgation and sentiment by Jason Heath-Fitzgerald:
It seems that a large home on the west side of McAlester has demanded our attention in the past month. This could mean the end of living in Krebs and leaving our home of over seven years.
The gray house found at 373 West Monroe in McAlester is kindly called 'The Old Lady on Monroe' by it's current owner and I admit it somewhat fits the nickname. 100 years old this year, it is the same age as the state of Oklahoma. It stands on the corner of Monroe and C street like a boulder that commands attention and threatens to weather any storm.
The home was first brought to our attention quite some time back when Paul was house-sitting there for the current owner. Matthew and I visited the home and simply fell in love. Besides the obvious, there are several odd things that seem to draw us to it, for example Matthew has a wild obsession with his favorite number which is 37, the house number of 'The Old Lady' is 373; Matthew's favorite number forward and backward.
The front balcony has seen better days and when the home was offered to us for purchase the balcony was falling in the middle onto the lower porch, giving the house a unhappy look. The old lady seemed sad and making this old lady happy did not seem to be the kind of project I cared to take on, however it was agreed that the balcony would be removed and build anew before we made our purchase. That being decided, we made an offer, the next day it was accepted.
Closing date is on April 30th. That means our time in our current home is limited. I think back about the years we've spent here and I know that there are many, many people out there who agree with me when I say; This has been one hell of a party place. I guarantee that more people out there have memories of this house than even I can imagine. How many parties have we had here?! I can't even begin to count and the Halloween Parties! Half of the infamous Krebs Queens Halloween Parties have been held right here in this house and the surrounding land, before those Halloween Parties held in this home, the others were held in the house directly behind ours.
So much has happened! So many memories that it's hard for me to think about it being over. Crazy? Yes, probably I am, but I love this house and I always will. This is the house Matthew and I came home to after our honeymoon. This is the house that our cats have grown up in. It's the house that we survived the Ice Storm of 2000 and the Ice Storm of 2007 in! It's also the house where we've had hundreds of friends come and go- it's a home that has felt comfortable to many people and I for one am going to miss it terribly. The gay house of Krebs is going away.
Before we leave we are having one last party. It will be the final Krebs Queens party and it will also be the celebration for Matthew's birthday. Saturday, April 14th 2007. Get out your cowboy/western gear, cause this one's gonna be a hoe-down! Saddle up for the last party! We're clearing out the furniture and bringing in the hay bales! Yee-Haw!
Love To All.
