"08.01.06 Journal; From Ginger Lamar to Driller Bears"
I've been so busy that I've been meaning to do something for over a week now & just haven't gotten to it. I'm sure you're wondering what it is- I've been meaning to BLOG about the weekend of July 21st & 22nd of 2006... so, FINALLY here we go- with pictures!
Matthew and I started off the weekend by accompanying the one & only Ginger Lamar to the Angles Event Center where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Board of Directors of the Miss Gay Oklahoma Pageant. Wow! What a night! The award was handed to Ginger by Miss Gay Oklahoma 2006 Tabitha Taylor, a long-time fan of Ginger's. (and I must say, Tabitha looked absolutely GORGEOUS!)
It was great seeing the career of Ginger Lamar spotlighted and shown the great respect that it deserves. Ginger Lamar is one of the greatest entertainers I've ever seen & a most wonderful person. Don't let the bitchy stage persona fool you... he does have feelings, and he was very grateful to receive the award... For those of you who are not familiar with Ginger Lamar, you are truly missing out! Ginger can be seen weekly at The Boom in Oklahoma city. Check out GingerLamar.com for more info.
So, I'll admit, when we left the event center, I was a little intoxicated... they put me in the back of that damn limo & drove me across to The Boom- sickness brewing in my gut... UGH. After arriving at The Boom that night things got a little cloudy... I remember something about Wendy's...
Then, suddenly it was the next morning! Wow! A cold front had moved through, so it was only like 94 degrees instead of 120! Matthew & I threw our shit into the Jeep & headed to Tulsa. We met Jim & Ron for lunch at the Wild Potato Buffet inside the Cherokee Casino - if ya haven't eatin there, GO! It's absolutely wonderful!
We spent the rest of the day asleep, then it was time to head to Mavericks for the Driller Bears annual Benefit "Christmas in July". The benefit was wonderful, thanks to two of the greatest folks- Helga & Tim 'The Animal'. Matthew sang, I drank, and we got to hang out with some of our best Tulsa friends- Violet Dementia, Paula Rae & Arnie, Clogger Bill, Philip Parker, Billy & Darnell... etc, etc... Some folks from the McAlester area showed up to give support too- Paul, Glenn, Josh...
I'd like to give a special thanks to Helga & Tim for always treating Matthew & I so well... they're just too sweet. TULSA! Be glad you got them!!
